Written and composed for Rued Langgaard Festival 2022's opening ceremony.
“Seven Circles” is a tactile exploration of corporeality and organism in a strained relationship with the concept of infinity. This work delves into the tension between the transient nature of the human body and the perpetual essence of universal constants. By engaging the senses, it unfolds the complexities of physical existence juxtaposed with the boundless continuum of infinity.
The compositional techniques are inspired by Else Marie Pade’s “Seven Circles” and Per Nørgård’s “Infinity Series.” Both of these works, in their own right, connect to the constant and the universal. In this context, they stand in stark contrast to the physicality and the ephemerality of living organisms. By integrating elements from these influential pieces, “Seven Circles” creates a dialogue between established musical interpretations of infinity and new perspectives on bodily impermanence.
During its performance at the Rued Langgaard Festival 2022, “Seven Circles” aimed to bridge the gap between finite human experience and infinite universal concepts. The opening ceremony provided a profound setting to invite the audience into a sensory-rich journey, challenging perceptions of time, existence, and the delicate balance between the constant and the fleeting.
